P.S. I know less about French train although with strong interests. I can not find the type of the locomotive on the train, but the different number which begins with "BB","CC"and so on.If someone know much about that, I wish you can introduce me briefly. Meanwhile, if you are interested in Chinese railway,I could tell you more.

Christohe77,
thank you very much for your help. But all the websites I can not open, why? If somebody have, can you send to my e-mail, merci beaucoup!

Nicolas36201,
The locomotive in my signature is a Chinese locomotive——DF11G (DF means "East wind" which is the name of diesel type). DF11G is running on Jinghu route(from Beijing to Shanghai), Longhai Route(from Lianyungang to Lanzhou)and Jingguang Route(from Beijing to Guangzhou),etc. It is mainly used to tract the type of "Z" class passanger car("Z" is short for "Zhikuai" which means nonstop express). If you like the train, you can leave you e-mail and I can send the files to you.

Hi

I'll try to explain you briefly how the locs are numeroted in France.

First, you've the letters BB or CC, which correspond to the numbers of wheels. BB 2 and 2 wheels (when looking the side of the loc) and CC for 3 and 3.

Then, the locs are often numeroted with a 5 or 6 digits numbers.
For the modern trains only (last few years), the first one correspond to the activity that own the train. Mainlines locs are 1, Freigtht one's are 4, regional are 5, Paris' regions are 8.
For older locs, this first number just doesn't exist. Therefore, codes are 5 or 4 digits only.

Then there is the number of the loc. when there are 5 numbers left, the 2 first is the class of the loc. it is the same when there are 4, but the second number of the class may change when there are more than 100 locs in the serie.

As I think i'm not very clear, here are exemples:

426170: 4-26-170
4: freight
26: class 26000
170: number of the loc

107210: 1-072-10
1:Mainline
072: class 7200
10: number of the loc

but you may find 107335, which is still a class 7200, but as this is the number 135 , the digit has changed.

There are a lot of other small things, but these rules should help you to recognise easily the french locs.

These is not really the same for the EMU and DMU, even if these rules can slightly be used. But as you asked for locs, I just speak about locs

Hope this help.

if you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I forgot a small point. :D

Locs with number from 0 to 9999 are direct current 1500 V.

Locs with number from 10000 to 19999 are alternative current 25000 V.

Locs with number from 20000 to 40000 are dual or tri-voltage (for other countries overhead lines).

From about 60000 to about 80000, locs are diesel.

cheers

paul
